Project 365

Everyday creativity - Day 1

Tuesday, February 14, 2017

I have tried to do a 365 sketch challenge twice already. Or wait... was it three? I lost count. Every time I've "failed" at it, it has left me kind of defeated to be honest. It has been because either I've had no energy or just not had the best plan of action. Working in a creative industry, I already put all my energy every day into my work. However much I really love doing it, it leaves me with little energy left at the end of the day. As I've ended up doing 3D animation, I don't get to draw as much as I used to anymore. I miss it so much, and every day I think about all the things I want to create. Not just drawing, but painting, 2D animation, photography. Just anything that lets me put my creativity into action. I've noticed recently that every time I've been painting or drawing in the evening, it has left me with so much energy and I get tons of ideas. Often, when I'm really low on energy after work, I weirdly kind of forget how much happiness drawing gives me.

I often think I maybe shouldn't do another 365 attempt, as I know there will be periods of time in my animation job that I just don't have the time to do anything else or I'll risk burning out. Then I thought I could be kinder to myself this time. If (and when) I do get into crunch time I might just put it on hold for a while and get it going again when it's passed. Also, instead of making it into a pure sketch challenge, I want it to be more of a every day creativity kind of thing. One of the things I struggled with the most when I was doing the sketch challenge before, was that I itched to do paintings and longer projects. This time around I'll just leave it open for any kind of longer projects as well as doing a daily sketch. So I might not be posting every day, but the times I feel I want to share some of the process. I am doing it for my own sake after all. At the same time I really like sharing with you and documenting my progress. I really do want to prove to myself that I can do it. So here I go again, wish me luck!

Here's a little WIP of something I started a couple of days ago and continued a little bit on tonight:

Over the past year I've been using my tumblr account way more than this blog, but I really don't want to get rid of my dear old blogspot juuust yet!

So just to let you know, if you want to follow what I'm up to there's way more on this little thing:

Mermaids, songs and islands

Friday, February 21, 2014

If I like to draw mermaids a lot? Naaaaah....

I finished working on "Song of the Sea" earlier this year. Feels so weird to be done, and really looking forward to seeing it all on the big screen! with the music from Bruno Coulais!! You can read more about the production here. There are a also few photos from the studio as Tomm Moore and Fabian Erlinghäuser were visiting in there somewhere!

Now I'm back to doing 3D animation again, but soon I'll be off doing a whole new thing. Moving to a far away island for half a year! Excitiiiiing

2013 doodle dump!

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Wow, so blogging in 2013 went horribly wrong! To somehow make up for it here's a whole lot of drawings from the past year. My inactivity has mostly been because I've been super busy (I just finished animating on "Song of the Sea"! Wow time is just racing by..) and having a lot of trouble with my wrist. But hey, new year with new possibilities right??

3D animation

Graduated and other good news!

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

Wow, it's about time I updated! I feel like I keep saying this every time... I swear I'll get better at it at some point! Many things have happened since my internship, for one I have actually graduated! Which in the beginning felt like it was just a vacation, and I was almost waiting to get back to school again. But now it's starting to feel right and I'm prepared to go out there and kick some animation butt! Here is what I actually worked on the last year of my bachelor (along with seven other students):

Other than that I've been fortunate enough to get a job at Nørlum, where I'll be animating on "Song of the Sea" (which is being made by Cartoon Saloon)! If you haven't heard about it, below I have posted the teaser Cartoon Saloon made a few years back. It looks like it will become a really beautiful film and I'm super excited to get to work on it!

Sketchbook revival

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Just got back to a forgotten sketchbook from early last year. I keep finding half filled sketchbooks around the apartment... BUT I will finish them this time aha-ha-ha! And then I found these, which I wanted to post~

Big things happening now! My final exam next is monday. I will be the very last person of the whole class... I just want to get it over with alright so I can stop holding my breath! Aaand then, friday next week, I'll be graduating! Wait what.... graduating... That word still sounds so odd to me. I can't believe I won't have any more school (at least for a long while)! And after that it's out in the big world of animation :D

Also (a rather late) Happy New Year to you all! Hope you had an awesome 2012 and may this year be just as epic~

Goodbye, Paris...

Friday, December 21, 2012

... you've been very good to me. Here's a little goodbye sketch for you~ Never did I think I would enjoy living in a city this much, seeing as I'm a small town girl. I've made some very good friends (which I will miss very much!) and good memories during the 4-ish months I've been here, and the studio has been beyond my expectations so I'm very sad to be leaving... But as a couple of people said to me yesterday; when one door closes, another one opens! I can't wait to see what is in store for me after graduation ... well, that's if we survive the end of the world!

Wow, I'm on a roll when it comes to updating lately! Can't say I mind getting my joy for sketching back~ Sorry about the bad quality on the images, as I don't have a scanner here my phone has to do for now :D

New Paris sketchbook, random pretty street and octopus awesomeness! And oouh, see the Eiffel Tower glitters! >u<

Sooooo, if you didn't already guess it.. I'm in Paris! hence the silly Paris in Denmark post earlier teehee. This Paris is slightly more french than the one I went to this summer x) I was lucky enough to get my internship at Illumination MacGuff over here (along with my classmate Christoffer Andersen)! They're all very friendly and nice to us, and it's a really great place to be! At the moment they're working on Despicable Me 2; you can see the trailer to it here

It's very inspiring to be around so many talented animators/artists here, so I've started getting my creative juices flowing again, yay! The last couple of days I've even got the taste for observational drawing too. Can't believe I didn't do it much before!

Also trying to improve my french. Well learn french. Guess who regrets she didn't pay attention in french class now ehem-- Still it's fun to try to learn a language from scratch, even though after a month I still only have the vocabulary of a baby ^^;

Anyways, so to not make this post too long, have a mermaid! couldn't help myself, they're too much funnn~
